MEEt the CEO & founder

Christian Covington (she/her) identifies as a Black, queer, woman who embraces authenticity and utilizes style and fashion as a means to express it. She aspires to challenge societal norms, specifically in regard to race and gender, and is eager to illuminate this passion through clothing presentation and design.

As a child, Christian never liked wearing dresses and skirts. She felt more comfortable and free wearing her older brother’s baggy t-shirts and pants. As a young girl influenced by a gendered society, she felt confused as to why she preferred clothes that were not designed for her.

Once Christian was able to independently shop for herself, she explored the boys’ and men’s departments at clothing stores. Although a more masculine style of clothing was her preference, the shopping experience itself was unpleasant. People would often look confused or ask about who the clothes were for, and it never felt “right” to walk into the women’s dressing room with men’s clothing.

In addition to the discomfort she felt while shopping, the clothes were always too big or too small. Nothing seemed to compliment both her body type and style preference. She wanted clothes that wouldn’t hug her curves and were also complimentary to her physique.

After years of settling for clothes that were either too big, too small, too feminine or too masculine, Christian decided it was time to create her own clothing brand that embraces the style(s) of individuals who also desire to dress outside the gender binary.

As the founder of Mx. Clothing, Christian hopes to provide an inclusive consumer experience for persons who celebrate gender fluidity through clothing and style.
