Colorado Chic X California Cold

By Destini

I would say my journey with fashion has evolved over time, with me - and changes with my seasons. It’s a blend, and usually mirrors the places I’m rooted in: what I call Colorado chic or California cold.

Historically, I’d wear a ton of neutrals: black and beiges. I feel deeply connected to nature and the Earth so I think my style always reflects that connection. It also felt super safe to wear mostly neutrals - no real room for judgment with neutrals. Growing up in Colorado, you also learned quickly that you need to dress for the cold. So lots of layers and beanies naturally came with my sense of style.

Spending more time in California, I learned to dress for the specific sauce that I bring to the space and in the past few years, I decided I needed more vibrancy in my life! I started adding more color in terms of accent pieces like sunglasses or prescription glasses, baseball hats or beanies, earrings or rings. Oranges, yellows, reds, greens, and blues. I think it adds a nice subtle pop while also becoming a statement of who I am.

I’ve always presented very femme, and still do but have liked to mix it up in recent years with oversized jackets / clothes that feel more masculine. We love an oversized coat over here! I love to pair that with shoes that feel hella feminine - like heeled boots and some hoops or the reverse, I’ll wear a chunky boot or sneakers with a dress that feels very fitting to my body.

I think my style is also presented holistically in who I am. The way I choose to carry myself that day in my stride or my loud laugh in a room. Whether I decide to allow folx to see my face with my hair tied back in a bun or whether I leave my hair free to take form. Whether I decide to wear make - up for the day or decide to rock my bare face.

All are reflective of me and who I am. Soft, yet spicy. Reserved and yet bold as hell. I like to mix it all together and walaaaah - Destini!

Thanks for reading - with gratitude!
