making my own rubric

I’ve always loved a rubric. Tell me exactly what to do to ace the test and I can deliver. But without a study guide, how do expect me to succeed? I want a study guide for every part of life. School, my job, my relationships, my housework, taking care of my dogs, everything. A harsh realization that came with growing up for me was learning that there will pretty much never be a step by step checklist to succeed. Sadly, this stays consistent with clothing.

At some point I stopped being attached to what I was wearing to school everyday and just started wearing what I saw all my friends wear. It always felt too hard to distinguish what was trendy or tacky or just not cool. One of the things I love most about my job is that I wear scrubs. I haven’t felt confident in my clothing taste since I was in 2nd grade if I remember correctly. Ironically, in 2nd grade I was voted mostly likely to become a New York Fashion Week designer by my classmates. I was making collections out of paper before I moved onto sewing fabric. I remember figuring out what I was going to wear every day used to be so exciting and easy.

Recently, I’ve been trying to get back to that place with it and just wear I’m drawn to, trying not to validate it through other people liking it too. It’s been fun to take steps out of my comfort zone and really start paying attention what I feel best in. I hope someday soon my closet is filled by clothes that inspire me as much as they did when I was in 2nd grade.
