Portrait of Kent Washington III smiling

My name is Kent Washington III. Also known as KENNYTHEINDIGO & HELLOKENNY. Born in El Paso, TX and raised in Colorado Springs, CO. I grew up in a military family but I was surrounded by creatives. I fell in love with Hip-Hop once I heard Busta Rhymes & Run DMC cassette tapes when I was 10 years old. Run DMC’s “My Adidas” introduced me to the importance of clothing. My journey with fashion has been life-changing. Growing up, I always wanted to dress in designer clothes or high-end brands. However, my family couldn’t afford those things. We were middle class. Had to make the best of what we had. My style is highly- influenced by that way of living. Thrift culture mixed with 2000s hip-hop/punk streetwear. I loved DGK, Nike, FUBU, South Pole, Pro Club and more.

I love Hip-Hop but loved to expand different genres. I grew up listening to Metal and Punk so I love going all black. Highly influenced by Jay-Z and Kanye’s Watch The Throne Era because it was very dark as well. But, all black sweatsuits. Black Levi’s jacket, fitted MLB hat with the hood on, and Oreo Nike Dunks (Hi-Top). I love going against the grain when it comes to self- expression. I’m always open to trying something one time but there is an awkwardness there. That’s something I can get over though, over time. You never know, you might love something

and add it to your vibe. But, if it doesn’t work... it doesn’t work. But, you can’t go wrong with black! Black is beautiful. Amen!

However, my clothing style changed as I progressed through life. Very interesting to shop and explore fashion as I started to make money from the jobs I’ve worked. Grew to fall in love with Levi Jean jackets, flannels and hats. Which has been synonymous with my brand and people recognize me for those materials. Had to see what fit my personality the best. Lots of trial and error but I love my style. As a heavier guy, it’s been hard finding clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident. Had to learn how to size materials for myself and be happy with those decisions. Clothing is one of the highest forms of self-expression and it’s a blessing to express. I’m a creative person. There are certain aesthetics that I’ve fallen in love with but I always wanna present myself unapologetically. Look good, you feel good. So, I stick with what makes me feel good. Music is truly the soundtrack for our fashion and the World is our runway. RUN IT!

Kent,

I LOVE how you acknowledge that there is an awkwardness to trying something new, and how you might unexpectedly like something and add it to your style. The way you view clothing is kind of how I view life :).

I appreciated reading about your journey and how your upbringing, love for music and professional development all influenced your clothing style. I hope you keep sticking to what makes you feel good, and I hope others follow your lead <3.
